Paulownia is the cost-effective alternative.

Configuration is the decision that takes longest – and it’s the one least suited to a list. Panels can hinge, bi-fold, slide past one another or sit fixed, louvre sizes run from narrow to wide, and the right frame depends on whether the opening is square. Angled and special shape shutters are a Brightshine specialty. They tackle the tough jobs, where alternative window treatments aren’t practical – and the same options are available as on standard shutters. A raked window, a triangular gable or a stairwell that’s defeated everything else is the conversation to have.

• Hangstrips, an inside fit with narrow 35mm side stiles and a 76.2mm louvre – which gives away less of your window.
• Bi-Fold, with free-floating panels on a track and a top pelmet hiding the hardware – plus a bottom M track.
• And Bi-Pass, with panels that slide past each other – shown under a fully lined textured curtain.
